What matters to Rinde Eckert?

Inspiring students to create and innovate.

Dramatic arts students at UC Davis benefit from the Granada Artist-in-Residence program, which brings prominent theatre directors, playwrights and choreographers to campus each quarter to teach and create a work for public performance.

Rinde Eckert, 2008 Granada Artist-in-Residence and Pulitzer Prize finalist, created Fate & Spinoza—a play exploring perception and isolation—during rehearsals with UC Davis students. The students then designed costumes, the set, lighting and sound, and performed the new work. For Eckert, the experience was cathartic; for the students, it was an exhilarating immersion in the professional artistic process.
